This skill makes you notice sounds better. It is automatically checked whenever the need arises. If you want your character to be very perceptive, you should take care of your skill value in this skill.
Basics[править | править исходный текст]
Better "sounds" results in getting messages from shops, monster triggering traps, royal vaults, threatening rooms, rivers and so on with a greater likelihood. A high Listening score will warn you about these things earlier on average.
Advanced uses[править | править исходный текст]
Test on tension rooms was done maxed out skill significantly increases "certain tension" messages. Listening is also primarily responsible for the special message received upon killing a cat (you can be blind in a dark room and will still see cat spirit rising; Listening probably refers to the pathetic moan). Of course seeing or not that message does not mean anything at all by itself; even if you don't realize you just killed a cat, the cat lord will know.
Listening skill does not affect the range at which the banshee's wail is deadly.
Unsurprisingly, deaf characters will fail all listening checks.

Granted for every character. Elves and many classes get additional training.

There are some areas with lots of messages like the arena, places containing shops... Truth be told, this skills increases so easily on its own that skill advances should not be wasted on it.
