Magic Lock is an arcane utility spell in ADOM. It allows the caster to lock any door in his/her immediate vicinity.
Magic Lock is a situationally useful spell which allows the PC to close off some areas either for convenience or to escape dangerous situations. This functionality is already present in keys, but there are certain differences between them and Magic Lock spell:
- While Magic Lock can only be used to lock doors, keys allow the opposite action (which is a significantly more frequent action)
- Magic Lock works on any door, whereas keys (with the exception of silver key) work only on corresponding door locks
- Magic Lock can be cast on an open door which simultaneously closes and locks it in 1 turn, whereas the PC will need 2 turns to do the same using keys
- Magic Lock never traps the door, whereas using cursed keys will normally result in a trapped door; this is somewhat important while dealing with neutral and friendly monsters (for example, in Dwarftown).
In practice, a combination of Knock and Magic Lock spells is superior to keys. This includes the artifact silver key, at least in version 1.1.1 of the game and earlier. As of version 1.2.0 it has an additional power to create doors which makes it somewhat more interesting.

Magic Lock doesn't depend on any attribute due to its fixed effect. Spell proficiency likewise doesn't improve anything except base cost.
