The Paragon of Order is one of the most difficult and frustrating challenges available in ADOM. In order to become a Paragon of Order, the player must arrive at D:50 without having committed any chaotic acts or (prior to version 1.2.0) allowing any lawful monsters to die. The latter requirement is particularly vexing: it is not simply that lawful monsters cannot be killed by the PC similar to dealing with cats, but rather that no lawful creature may be killed at all — even if they are attacked by another creature or killed by a floor trap. The reward for completing this arduous task is the most powerful artifact girdle in the game: True Strength.

Due to the frustrating and counter-intuitive nature of the requirement for no lawful creatures to die at all (whether the PC is to blame for their deaths or not) the requirements were amended in ADOM v. 1.2.0 so that only lawful deaths that are caused by the PC will be counted against the quest.[1]

Achieving Paragon of Order[править | править исходный текст]

Many strategies have been attempted to achieve Paragon status with varying degrees of success. Many players feel that simply traveling through the game at normal pace will almost invariably result in the unpreventable death of a lawful creature, such as a blink dog. Thus many prospective Paragons prefer to employ a strategy such as ring dipping or gremlin bombing to generate early-game wishes and greatly accelerate their leveling. Once at a sufficiently high level, the PC would then teleport rapidly through the CoC to avoid spending too much time on any one level, thus limiting the chance of the loss of a lawful creature. Alternatively, employing tactics similar to a speed run is a possible strategy. It is possible to become Paragon without employing such tactics, but the player will need to be very patient and persistent to accomplish it.

The game does not alert the player when they become ineligible to become Paragon of Order. Only when he/she has reached D:50 can it be definitely determined whether the requirements are met.

Ultra Paragon[править | править исходный текст]

Due to the chaotic nature of some of the quests involved, both becoming a Paragon of Order and completing an Ultra Ending are almost mutually exclusive. A player who begins the game chaotic may, in fact, satisfy the demented ratling and Gaab'Baay's first quest, and then safely convert their alignment and obtain the Trident of the Red Rooster. Unfortunately, in order to attain the Medal of Chaos, the PC requires the corpse of a farmer, a lawful creature. The only solution is to lure Gaab'Baay to D:48, travel to D:50 and receive True Strength, then kill a wished-for farmer and satisfy Gaab'Baay's remaining requirements.

Alternately, it's hypothesized that it could be possible through the use of a wish engine. Simply wish for "corpses" until a farmer corpse is found, and use that to satisfy Gaab'Baay. Another untested possibility is training a farmer (by introducing weak monsters such as rats into their general area and watching the fight) until they are strong enough to defeat a doppelganger. When fighting other monsters, doppelgangers will take on the appearance of their enemy and drop the appropriate corpse - a farmer doppelganger should, theoretically, drop a farmer corpse.

Potential Pitfalls in Becoming Paragon[править | править исходный текст]

The following is a list of activities that will cause the player to fail in achieving Paragon status. This list is not intended to be exhaustive, but merely representative of some of the less intuitive measures required:

Rewards[править | править исходный текст]

Upon reaching D:50 with all requirements satisfied, the PC will receive the artifact girdle True Strength as well as a significant boost to their final score and an entry noted on their logfile. Since the PC has practically finished the game by the time the artifact is received, acquiring it is more a point of pride than anything else. Note that if the player commits a chaotic act after becoming Paragon, True Strength will slowly squeeze the PC to death.
