Swimming is a skill which governs a PC's ability to safely cross water. Though it may seem like a basic skill, only a few races and a small number of classes (mainly fighting ones) start with it.
Manual info[править | править исходный текст]
This skill enables you to traverse bodies of water. To fail an attempt to swim can be very deadly nonetheless.
Basics[править | править исходный текст]
The higher a PC's Swimming skill, the more chance they have of successfully swimming in water ("You easily swim in the water") and the less damage they take from unsuccessful attempts ("You are drowning!"). PCs who do not have the skill tend to take a lot more damage in water than those who have a 'Poor' rating in the skill -- if a PC enters water without having the skill at all, they tend to take a considerable amount of damage relative to their max HP (possibly 40 2d10% of it on each turn), which seems to increase with each step they take in water.
Note that even if a PC has a skill of 100 in Swimming, which will prevent damage from swimming through standard bodies of water, it will not prevent damage taken from drowning in the Water Dragon Cave. The only way to prevent damage from drowning underwater is to have the water breathing intrinsic.
Advanced uses[править | править исходный текст]
The PC's ability at swimming also governs the required energy cost to move across water -- the usual cost for doing so is 1500, which is reduced to 1250 for PCs with a skill level of 50 or higher in this skill. Note that due a bug, the opposite occurs in ADOM versions prior to 1.2.0 -- the energy cost is 1500 for PCs with the skill at 50 or more, and 1250 for PCs with the skill at less than 50 or that can't swim at all.
If the PC is wearing an amulet of free action, they will only require 1000 energy points to swim regardless of their ability with this skill.
Obtaining[править | править исходный текст]
Training[править | править исходный текст]
Swimming is trained by being in water. Of course, spending too long in water can be very risky for PCs with very low scores in swimming. Care must also be taken to avoid rusting iron items and drenching scrolls.
